IMTEC-LKM1-Antibodies is an indirect solid-phase enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) for the quantitative measurement of IgG class autoantibodies against LKM1 in human serum. The assay is intended for in vitro diagnostic use only as an aid in the diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis.

Autoimmune chronic active hepatitis (AI-CAH) type 2 predominates in girls and young women. About 82% of these patients develop cirrhosis of the liver. The disease is often characterised by a fulminant onset and high inflammatory activity. Anti-LKM1 antibodies are regarded as markers of type 2 AI-CAH. However, these antibodies can also be detected in around 7% of patients with chronic hepatitis C and, in very rare cases, in patients with halothane-induced hepatitis.
